Inspiration

Our inspiration for the Rising Dough project stems from a shared passion for empowering young individuals with essential financial knowledge and skills. We believe that financial literacy is a crucial life skill that should be accessible to everyone, especially teenagers and college students who are often navigating financial independence for the first time. By creating an innovative online banking application, we aim to make learning about finances engaging, personalized, and empowering.

What it does

Rising Dough is an online banking application designed to educate and guide young adults in making informed and responsible financial decisions. Powered by AI technology, the app offers personalized financial recommendations, payment scheduling, and educational content tailored to individual spending habits. Users can manage their accounts, improve their credit scores, and gain valuable financial skills through an intuitive and user-friendly interface.

How we built it

We built Rising Dough using a combination of languages and tools. The frontend interface was developed using Next.js, focusing on responsive design for device compatibility. The backend logic was implemented using TypeScript with Node.js, while the database management system utilized Kintone and PostgreSQL for storing user data and transaction history. AI services were integrated using the Gemini API to provide personalized financial recommendations. Lastly, we utilized Vercel for deployment.

Challenges we ran into

Working with APIs presented several challenges for our team during the development. Integrating external services for banking functionalities required careful consideration of data exchange and communication rules and services. It was a learning step but we managed to get the Gemini API integrated!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our accomplishments in integrating Gemini and implementing working features represent significant progress towards our goal and that is what we are the most proud of! We are excited to continue building on these achievements and further enhance the capabilities of Rising Dough as we pursue this in the future.

What we learned

This project has been a huge learning experience for us. We not only acquired technical skills such as database management, app deployment, and using AI, but also gained a deeper understanding of our personal limits in terms of knowledge and expertise. This experience has motivated us to adopt a continuous learning mindset and seek out new opportunities for growth and maybe win WildHacks next year (:

What's next for RisingDough

Moving forward, we want to expand Rising Dough into a full-fledged learning platform. We plan to develop and implement additional features that enhance the educational experience for users, such as creating portfolios and providing practical guidance on financial literacy. Additionally, we aim to initiate programs that offer users hands-on experience and exposure to real-world financial scenarios, furthering their financial education journey.
