Inspiration Our original inspiration for this project is to make working on homework entertaining while having the opportunity to work with friends. Our team wanted to address the ‘culture’ challenge presented by SWE Hacks by creating a website where with a friend, you copy paste your homework into the website and then you can play battleship against your friends by solving problems, and you get to make moves in the game based on solving your homework problems.
We built an HTML + JS website to model how the final product would work. Currently only single player, the final idea would be integrated into gradescope and canvas so that users could easily begin these battleship sessions while studying with friends to motivate them to continue their homework without other distractions.
Challenges: For more than half the group, this was our first hackathon experience so we did not know what to expect going into this. A challenge which came up from this was that we did not know how to integrate a google extension into gradescope or canvas, so this would be a possible avenue for a further scope for expansion…
Accomplishments that I'm proud of - it works! For single player battleship kinda. We also got LaTeX working!
What I learned - we learned more about how to use github repositories in theoretical practice and learned more about how to use javascript with html to create webpages.
