Inspiration
Our inspiration for FitNest emerged from a commitment to promoting fitness. Recognizing the importance of fitness, we envisioned an omnichannel platform that not only promotes wellness but also seamlessly integrates Arc’teryx's high-performance outdoor gear into the fitness journey of our customers. We aimed to leverage technology to provide personalized recommendations, encourage outdoor activities, and enhance the overall shopping experience, aligning with Arc’teryx's mission of innovation and adventure.
What it does
FitNest is a comprehensive omnichannel platform that combines fitness challenges and personalized product recommendations. Users can participate in fitness challenges to earn reward points and explore Arc’teryx's product offerings tailored to their outdoor adventures and wellness needs. They can earn Arc’teryx’s discounts and in-store credits that can be used to buy products on sale.
How we built it
We built FitNest using a combination of cutting-edge technologies and design principles. We all collaborated to develop a user-centric platform that seamlessly integrates with Arc’teryx's existing ecosystem. We utilized the YOLOv8 algorithm of computer vision to analyze user activity data and to track their progress. We used CohereAI to create a bot to match the user requirement to one of the products from Arc’teryx’s database and provide personalized recommendations. We used MongoDB to store user information including their progress in various challenges.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout the development process, we encountered several errors while implementing the YOLOv8 algorithm, making debugging a major challenge. Integrating the frontend with the backend posed another significant hurdle, especially considering that most of us lacked extensive knowledge of front-end design and development. Additionally, aligning our vision with Arc’teryx's brand identity and values required careful consideration and collaboration.

FitNest not only promotes fitness and wellness but also enables Arc’teryx to reach a wider range of customers. Our team's dedication, creativity, and expertise empowered us to overcome obstacles and deliver a product that resonates with Arc’teryx's commitment to innovation, craftsmanship, and performance.
What we learned
Throughout the development of FitNest, we learned valuable lessons about the importance of user-centered design, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and leveraging technology to create meaningful experiences. We gained insights into the evolving landscape of e-commerce and the intersection of technology, fashion, and wellness, which will inform our future projects and initiatives.
What's next for FitNest
Looking ahead, FitNest is set to evolve with exciting new features:
- Enabling users to host and add events: We aim to give an option to the users who wish to host their own events to promote wellness.
- Enhancing the bot: We plan to enhance the bot so it can give more information about health and wellness, Arc’teryx’s store information along with product recommendations.
- Building a data model: Build a test and train based data model to make the recommendations more accurate and user feedback dependent
- Promoting Mental Wellness: We believe that mental wellness is as important as physical wellness, therefore, we aim to add challenges that promote mental wellness along with physical wellness.
- Push Notification Integration: Provide users with reminders to finish their challenges and give information about their products and upcoming events.
