Having mentors and real-life role models gives students in underprivileged situations hope of finding careers in STEM when discouraged by the effects of the cycle of poverty. Challenging negative stereotypes with varied real-world experiences and empowering stories also motivates younger children to think about venturing into the STEM field. Introducing these children into a world that makes minority success common builds confidence and self-esteem in under privileged communities at a young age.
